Like the artist, you must first imagine the life you want in order to create it. Carl Sandberg said it simply: "Nothing unless first a dream".

Stringing the Beads
by Marcy Nelson-Garrison

At a recent gathering the host invited us all to gather in a circle and “string the beads”. This was the phrase they used to describe each person in the room introducing them selves. What a great metaphor. Each person’s sharing is held as a beautiful bead and an important part of the whole.

It got me thinking about beads. Beads have been around forever and have been used in many ways; for prayer (rosaries, Tibetan prayer beads) for recognition (Campfire girl’s colorful bead covered vests) and for adornment.

What would it be to honor all of your personal dreams, wishes and goals with a string of beads - literally? Your string could have a whole life focus (health, relationship, work, finances, fun etc), reflect your core values or represent desired goals in an important project.

Choose your focus and name your intentions and goals. What qualities come to mind for each? Is the intention light or dense? colorful or subdued? Is your goal serious or playful, big or small? Once you have a good feel for your individual goals or intentions, head to your favorite bead store. A good bead store will give you plenty of choices.  Beads come in all kinds of sizes, shapes, materials, colors, textures. Don’t over think this just allow your intuition to guide you. You are certain to find just the right bead for each goal or intention.

To expand on this idea, consider hand making at least one bead – let’s call it the self-bead. Beads can be made from paper mache, polymer clay, wood, wire etc.
The joy of creating your own bead is that you can paint it or attach things to it like fabric, paper, words and symbols. You could also select a larger bead at the bead store and then alter it with paint and other accoutrements.

The very act of choosing, making and stringing these beads is an active way to bring an intention or goal to life. It becomes a powerful reminder or talisman for what you want to create in your life. Keep it handy and keep it visible.

Blocked? Move Your Body

Sparker – Blocked? Move Your body

Is there something you would really like to do, be or have but fill blocked because of money?

I was reading The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron recently and came across a statement that definitely got my attention. Julia says emphatically that money is NEVER an authentic block. What?! She goes on to say “the actual block is our feeling of constriction, our sense of powerlessness. “

I felt the truth of that statement immediately in my body; c onstricted, cramped, squeezed, bound, tightened, Ouch! Makes you want to reach for the opposite – expanded, loose, spacious, free. Aaaah much better – can you feel it? If we can recognize the emotional state of constriction we can shift it. The more expansive we feel, the more likely we are to attract positive experiences, situations, people and yes even cash.

The cool thing is that you can let your body lead the way.

When you are feeling blocked there is probably constriction already present in your body. Notice it and begin to exaggerate it. Put your body in a tight, cramped position and tighten all your muscles – just notice how that feels and the energy it takes to stay here. Once you have a sense of it begin to slowly release the tightness in your muscles. Continue to release and unfold your posture, lifting your arms up and out. Lift your head, stretch into a full open-hearted stance, wiggle, bounce, smile and breathe deeply. Notice the difference?

Shifting your body can shift your internal state. The key is to notice when constriction is present, make the choice to shift it and see what happens. It just may open the flow to more abundance in all areas of your life.

Inspired Action by Marcy Nelson-Garrison

Have you ever had a spontaneous urge to do something like clean out a closet or paint a room? Have you noticed that when you are operating from a spontaneous urge there is a sense of effortlessness and joy in the doing. It's amazing isn't it – the very same activity would feel like drudgery if it was motivated from I have to, or I should. Any action feels so much better when we want to do it.

So how can we have more of that? More inspired action?

It's an interesting phenomena that as you spend time imagining and planning whatever it is you are wanting to create, you will experience more and more frequent spontaneous urges to take action towards it. The dream holds the key.

Sometimes we get overly busy and fall out of sync with the dream. We forget to listen for the urges and it starts to feel like drudgery. When that happens, come back to your vision, put the ‘to do' list aside and simply listen. Listen for the natural urges pointing you to the work that will move you forward. Take joyful inspired action steps and before you know it, your dream will be reality.

What inspired action is calling to you?
